Thousands of people have fallen ill in the US from vaping-related lung injuries, but in fact, 84% of them are related to THC. The spate of deaths in the US has been linked to THC, the banned stimulant in marijuana, not nicotine.
According to the CDC, 84% of the 19 deaths from vaping-related injuries involved THC products.
The investigation results showed that 63% of people died from using THC products alone instead of nicotine.
According to the CDC, as of October 22, there have been 1,604 cases of vaping-related lung injury in the United States. The majority of patients are young white teenagers, with about 80% under the age of 35.
While people 65 and older account for only 2% of serious cases, they account for a quarter of deaths. Illicit cannabis products have been identified as the primary cause of a series of severe lung injuries in the United States.
The New York Department of Health acknowledged that Dank Vapes and Chronic Carts both contain vitamin E acetate, a thickener in THC oil.
According to a study from the New England Journal of Medicine, 24 out of 41 lung disease cases had used Dank Vapes.
The effects of vitamin E acetate on the lungs are still unclear, the FDA has advised people to stop using THC oil and products of unknown origin.
